Mayor Carleton Finkbeiner of Toledo, Ohio organized a "Hurricane Mitch Relief" expedition out of Toledo, Ohio.  Almost 50 residents and/or friends of Toledo traveled to Honduras in March of 1999.  Some worked in health care, providing medical examinations and treatment to hundreds of the poor of Honduras, people who can not afford to pay physicians or buy medicine.  Others worked with CARE in helping build a new village to house people flooded out by Hurricane Mitch.  There were also a few political people (very necessary!) and media representatives.

This project was financed by contributions from businesses and individuals.  I am pleased to report that many other communities have sent relief teams.

Use of photographs, images and commentary from photographs I have posted for this page is for non-profit, educational or personal purposes only.  Use of images by commercial entities (newspapers, textbooks, etc.) without specific written permission of the author grants Dr. D. the right to download and use images and text published by those entities (who engage in such practices) for educational purposes, which may include posting borrowed material on the Web.  Toledo volunteers are most welcome to copy and use these images as they see fit, excluding commercial applications (permission to use will be liberally granted, but please ask).  Original scans are of higher resolution than the images posted and may be available on CD-ROM in the future.  After reviewing some of the images, it looks like I have to scan some of the slides a second time.

If you have photos of the Marcovia project to share either on the CD or if you would like them posted on The Web, please attach them to e-mail messages and send them to me along with instructions and requests.  If you have (or know of) a Web page on Toledo's Marcovia project, please tell me about them so I can construct links.

This page and the pages to which links have been provided remain under construction (what on The Web isn't?) (some of my spiderweb sites, I admit).   Topics without links remain unorganized.  Tenga paciencia, por favor.  Links to my pictures begin here.  Color slides did not scan as easily as prints.  I will try again cuando tenga tiempo.

Voces Latinas: Tony Ríos was one of several Toledo-area Hispanics on this expedition.  He produced videos showing parts of the Toledo project - nothing about Marcovia on his Web site (yet) but this is where you can find him.
